Step 12: Observe Your Judge in Court

Before your first court date, attend court at least 4 times to watch your judge in action. Bring your notebook, listen carefully, and take notes.

If you work and cannot do this without risking your job, then attend fewer times.

Focus on:

  • How the Judge prefers information to be presented.
  • What behaviors or actions annoy the judge.

By observing your judge ahead of time, you’ll lower your anxiety by knowing what to expect and how that specific judge likes to handle things. You’ll be much better prepared for your own day in court. Don’t skip this step unless it would put your job at risk!
