Step 16: Get on the EDN Trial Calendar
To receive support in court, you must get on our Trial Calendar. To do this:
- To receive last-minute counselling, name yourself correctly on Zoom (see instructions in Video 1B). By being properly named, we can determine how urgent your need for counseling is.
- At the Zoom meeting, send your PIP to the person handling the EDN court calendar when asked to do so.
- Text your PIP at 8 AM on the date of your court appearance.
Why this matters:
- It helps us to counsel you on your court day.
- Evictions are filed in one of 15 courtrooms across 11 courthouses in the County. Sometimes your case stays with the same department and judge; other times, if your case does not settle, it is reassigned through Department 1 (dispatch court). Department 1 may then send you to trial before any of the 72 judges across 38 Los Angeles Superior Court locations.
- Being on the calendar greatly increases your chances of being prepared for trial and having an EDN attorney available to represent you when your case is assigned a trial judge.
